For artists at all levels
DEVELOPING COLOR HARMONY WITH A LIMITED PALETTE
I will spend the first hour demonstrating techniques for consistently and confidently mixing harmonious colors using a very limited palette. This class will illustrate how many fantastic color combinations are possible without having to invest in 20 tubes of various expensive paint colors.
After the demonstration, students will have the opportunity to create their own variations of colors based upon what we talked about during the demo. A list of supplies required for the class will be provided upon students’ completion of registration.
DEVELOPING STRONG PAINTINGS USING SIMPLE DESIGN
The central focus of this workshop will be to discuss and demonstrate the most basic
design principles for creating paintings that have solid design structure. We will be
working outdoors on location, in pleinair if the weather permits.
It will not be our goal to complete “finished” paintings, but rather to develop
design structures that can later be applied to more finished works.
I will spend the first hour or two in the morning doing a pleinair demonstration for the
class, and after lunch, working personally with each student directing their own efforts
at creating their pleinair work. We will end the session with short critiques of each
student’s paintings, and a summary of what we learned the past two days.
