Day 1

DEVELOPING COLOR HARMONY WITH A LIMITED PALETTE

I will spend the first hour demonstrating techniques for consistently and confidently mixing harmonious colors using a very limited palette.  This class will illustrate how many fantastic color combinations are possible without having to invest in 20 tubes of various expensive paint colors.

After the demonstration, students will have the opportunity to create their own variations of colors based upon what we talked about during the demo. A list of supplies required for the class will be provided upon students’ completion of registration.

Day 2

DEVELOPING STRONG PAINTINGS USING SIMPLE DESIGN

The central focus of this workshop will be to discuss and demonstrate the most basic of design principles for creating paintings that have solid design structure to them. It will not be our purpose to complete “finished” paintings.  Finished paintings can only come after we learn how to design our paintings.

I will spend the first hour or so demonstrating what those elements are and will distribute handouts to students that illustrate the differences between weaker, poorly planned pictures, and those with strong design. We will practice small, quick studies to develop some of these basic skills.
