ABSTRACT ARCHITECTURE IN CLASSICAL PAINTING
October 9 - 10, 2010
$220
all levels
Have you ever seen paintings by classical masters such as Vermeer, Caravaggio, or Titian, and had the feeling that there is much more happening then what ‘meets the eye’? A feeling as if there was a hidden ‘order’ or architecture beneath the composition that seems to connect and unify the arrangement of figures and objects in an implied way? If so, that’s because there are compositional systems that serve to do just that.
Math, music, and painting overlap in this domain as the ratios of harmonic divisions, golden section rectangles, and other devices can be used to unite your composition in a meaningful way.
Tenaya received a B.F.A in painting and drawing at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. After working several years as a graphic designer, he began his classical studies at the Jeff Watts Atelier in Encinitas, CA. He then moved to Seattle where he completed four years of full time study at the Juliette Aristides Classical Atelier at the Gage Academy in Seattle. He is the recipient of the Stanley R. Wright Foundation award (2004) and the Robert DeZordo Estate award (2005). Tenaya has taught classes at Gage Academy of Art and Pratt Fine arts Center, and is currently represented by Elka Rouskov Gallery in Kirkland, Wa. Tenaya was recently featured in Southwest Art's 21 under 31 painters with a bright future! (pg 136).
