Painting the Landscape and Portrait in Watercolor (beginner, some basic experience, to advanced)
In this workshop Stan will demonstrate every morning. Throughout the workshop he will visit and instruct each student individually. He will discuss and demonstrate the basics of watercolor and egg tempera technique, color and composition. Students should bring 5 to 10 photos, some of them enlarged, of subjects they are interested in painting. The instructor will also have photo handouts.
In this workshop we will address the fundamentals of watercolor painting; color, watercolor technique, egg tempera technique, composition, and choosing a paintable subject based on one’s skill level. Stan will demonstrate the landscape and the portrait, using a variety of styles and approaches, from realism to impressionism to abstraction. Students will have the option of painting from the instructors hand-outs, from their own photos (higher contrast photos are easier to paint), from their sketches or from their imagination. Students need a minimum of 5 to 10 photos of subjects they know and care about, some of them enlarged up to an 8" x 10" image. All painting styles are welcome. Students have the option of bringing one drawing or painting for a private individual critique.
